Structures Laboratory Manager
High Performance Technologies, Inc. (HPTech) is an infrastructure-centered firm focusing on practice, research, policy, and technology transfer. HPTech was established in 2003 with the primary purpose of serving the U.S. federal government at their facilities and project sites. Our uniqueness lies in our ability to integrate physical sciences, social sciences, engineering, planning, and policy when developing and delivering infrastructure solutions.
HPTech is currently pursuing a task order under a major federal contract, and we are identifying candidates who would be interested in working with us should we be awarded the task order. At this stage, we are looking for a Structures Laboratory Manager who will be responsible for the oversight of a state-of-the-art structures laboratory at a government facility. The laboratory specializes in “developing and testing bridge designs, materials, and construction processes that promise safer and more efficient structures in the Nation's highway system.” The scope of the laboratory includes fundamental research into the strength, fatigue resistance, serviceability, and safety of bridge structures and components; applied research to assess the suitability of various structural components and systems under different service conditions; forensic evaluation of structural failures; and systems integration at superstructure and substructure interfaces.
The laboratory manager will be responsible for overall scheduling of laboratory resources and day-to-day laboratory operations. The laboratory manager will also be responsible for ensuring that all equipment are in a state of good repair, equipment calibrations and annual maintenance requirements are upheld, and the laboratory safety plan is up-to-date. The laboratory manager will have experience working in a research laboratory environment with at least 5 years of laboratory management experience. This is a hands-on management position with functional responsibilities equivalent to that of a Research Engineer. As a researcher, the candidate will identify challenges and opportunities in the materials, design, and construction of bridges aimed at designing and constructing bridges that are safer, economical, and longer-lasting.
Qualifications

Advanced degree (M.S. or Ph.D.) in Civil, Mechanical, Structural, or Bridge Engineering.
-
At least 5 years of laboratory management experience in a research environment.
-
Experience in developing large-scale detailed and comprehensive experimental plans involving bridge superstructure or substructure.
-
Experience in the use of latest software in the design, analysis, and modeling of bridges, including finite element modeling (FEM).
-
Excellent verbal, presentation, and writing skills.
-
Excellent team and collaborative skills.
