Structural Laboratory Technicians
High Performance Technologies, Inc. (HPTech) is an infrastructure-centered firm focusing on practice, research, policy, and technology transfer. HPTech was established in 2003 with the primary purpose of serving the U.S. federal government at their facilities and project sites. Our uniqueness lies in our ability to integrate physical sciences, social sciences, engineering, planning, and policy when developing and delivering infrastructure solutions.
HPTech is currently pursuing a task order under a major federal contract, and we are identifying candidates who would be interested in working with us should we be awarded the task order. At this stage, we are looking for Structural Laboratory Technicians who will be working at a state-of-the-art structural laboratory at a government facility, and assisting the Research Engineers, Laboratory Manager, and the Program Manager in the operation and maintenance of the laboratory to the highest standards. The laboratory specializes in “developing and testing bridge designs, materials, and construction processes that promise safer and more efficient structures in the Nation's highway system.”
Responsibilities

Set up and operate equipment, sensors, and data acquisition systems.

Fabricate, maintain, and test concrete and metal specimens using a variety of devices and systems, including servovalve hydraulic equipment. The specimens could be as large as full-scale bridge elements and as small as a few millimeter steel samples under a metallography microscope.

Conduct complex movement of test specimens and accessories with overhead cranes, forklifts and/or other rigging equipment

Calibrate and maintain laboratory equipment and sensors.

Install and maintain software for specialized laboratory equipment.

Perform standardized materials tests.
Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, or Electronics Engineering. The degree requirement may be substituted with completion of at least two years of technical training in engineering, engineering technician skills, computer science, electronics, or mechatronics.

2 or more years of experience, after completing undergraduate degree, and familiarity with hydraulic testing systems and basic instrumentation systems for collecting data, desirable.

A good level of mechanical aptitude.

Basic computer skills, including proficiency with MSWord and MS Excel and ability to use specialized software for hydraulic and instrumentation systems.

Ability to comprehend construction plan drawings.

Excellent team and collaborative skills.
These anticipated positions, which are contingent upon the task order award to HPTech, would be based in McLean, Virginia.
