Database Engineer

 

High Performance Technologies, Inc. (HPTech) is an infrastructure-centered firm focusing on practice, research, policy, and technology transfer.  HPTech was established in 2003 with the primary purpose of serving the U.S. federal government at their facilities and project sites.  Our uniqueness lies in our ability to integrate physical sciences, social sciences, engineering, planning, and policy when developing and delivering infrastructure solutions.

 

We are seeking a Database Engineer to support national transportation research programs, including the Long-Term Pavement Performance (LTPP) and Long-Term Bridge Performance (LTBP) programs and other FHWA infrastructure research initiatives. The position supports the design, maintenance, and optimization of infrastructure research databases for FHWA programs. This role focuses on scalable data systems that support pavement, bridge, and materials research.

 

Responsibilities

  • Support database design, implementation, and maintenance activities.

  • Assist with data validation, query optimization, and performance monitoring.

  • Support backup, recovery, and data integrity processes.

  • Participate in automating routine database administration tasks.

  • Work closely with engineers and analysts to support research data needs.

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science/engineering, data science, information systems, or a closely related field.

  • 3+ years of database experience.

  • Familiarity with Oracle and Microsoft SQL Server environments.

  • Understanding of database modeling and data processing concepts.

  • Familiarity with cloud-based database platforms.
