Senior Pavement Engineer

High Performance Technologies, Inc. (HPTech) is an infrastructure-centered firm focusing on practice, research, policy, and technology transfer.  HPTech was established in 2003 with the primary purpose of serving the U.S. federal government at their facilities and project sites.  Our uniqueness lies in our ability to integrate physical sciences, social sciences, engineering, planning, and policy when developing and delivering infrastructure solutions.

​ HPTech is currently pursuing an upcoming major federal contract, and we are identifying candidates who would be interested in working with us should we be awarded the contract. At this stage, we are looking for a Senior Pavement Engineer who will be responsible for providing expertise in various aspects of pavement engineering, including pavement design, pavement materials, pavement construction, quality assurance, pavement evaluation, pavement preservation, pavement management, sustainability, and resilience. The position will lead technology transfer activities related to new and emerging pavement technologies, including development and delivery of best practices, webinars, workshops, training courses, and demonstrations. The position will also lead testing and evaluation of pavement materials and projects that have developed problems, either during construction or after opening to traffic, as well as those exhibiting problems or distresses during service life of the pavements.

 

Qualifications

  • An advanced degree (M.S. or Ph.D.) in civil engineering, with a concentration in pavement engineering.

  • At least 5 years of progressively related and responsible experience in pavement engineering as a researcher, practitioner, or a combination.

  • Demonstrated technical expertise in various aspects of pavement engineering, including pavement design, pavement materials, pavement construction, quality assurance, pavement evaluation, pavement preservation, pavement management, sustainability, and resilience.

  • Demonstrated experience in Transverse Pavement Profiler (TPP) Assessment tests, including AASHTO PP 106, 107, 108, 109, and 110.

  • Demonstrated experience in pavement surface distress and transverse profile data collection and analysis.

  • Knowledgeable in the use of Machine Leaning (ML) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies in pavement surface condition assessments.  

  • Demonstrated knowledge of and experience in statistical analyses, including the use of statistical analysis software packages.

  • Demonstrated experience in technology transfer related to new and emerging pavement technologies, including development and delivery of best practices, webinars, workshops, training courses, and demonstrations.

  • Record of published peer-reviewed journal articles and research reports, and conference presentations.

  • Excellent verbal, presentation, and writing skills.

  • Excellent team and collaborative skills.

  • Professional Engineer (P.E.) license highly desirable.

 

This anticipated position, which is contingent upon the contract award to HPTech, would be based in Herndon, Virginia.
