Senior NDE Engineer

High Performance Technologies, Inc. (HPTech) is an infrastructure-centered firm focusing on practice, research, policy, and technology transfer.  HPTech was established in 2003 with the primary purpose of serving the U.S. federal government at their facilities and project sites.  Our uniqueness lies in our ability to integrate physical sciences, social sciences, engineering, planning, and policy when developing and delivering infrastructure solutions.

HPTech is currently pursuing a federal contract and we are identifying candidates who would be interested in working with us should we be awarded the contract.  At this stage, we are looking for a Senior Non-Destructive Evaluation (NDE) Engineer who will be responsible for assessing the current state-of-the-practice of State highway agencies in the use of NDE technologies, beyond traditional visual inspections; quantifying the added value and return on investment (ROI) with the application of NDE technologies; integrating NDE technologies into asset management systems, particularly Bridge Management System (BMS) and Tunnel Management System (TMS); developing guidelines for the application of NDE technologies in bridges and tunnels; and participating in technology transfer activities related to NDE applications.  


  • Advanced degree (M.S. or Ph.D.) in Civil, Mechatronics, Electrical, or Computer Engineering.

  • At least 6 years of combined research and field experience related to application of NDE technologies in bridges and tunnels, particularly advanced and emerging technologies such as phased-array ultrasonic.

  • Experience in NDE data analysis, visualization and interpretation.

  • Experience in the use of visualization techniques to detect/map flaws.

  • Experience in the use of latest software in NDE technologies.

  • Understanding of and familiarity with standards and specifications related to NDE technologies.

  • Understanding of and familiarity with bridge and tunnel inspection manuals.

  • Excellent verbal, presentation, and writing skills.

  • Excellent team and collaborative skills.

  • Professional Engineer (P.E.) registration highly desirable.​

This anticipated position, which is contingent upon the contract award to HPTech, would be based in Washington, D.C. area.
