Pavement Test Facility Operations Engineer

HPTech is currently seeking a highly qualified Pavement Test Facility Operations Engineer (PTF-OE) to support operation, maintenance, and repair of specialized Pavement Test Machines (PTMs) at a state-of-the-art government-owned Pavement Test Facility (PTF). The PTF conducts accelerated testing of full-scale pavement structures to evaluate the performance of new materials, emerging design and construction practices, and advanced quality assurance/quality control (QA/QC) test procedures. Over the years, the facility has supported numerous studies contributing to the development, validation, and refinement of specifications, pavement designs, and testing methodologies for both rigid and flexible pavements.

The PTF-OE will be responsible for the hands-on, day-to-day operation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of Pavement Test Machines used in accelerated pavement testing. Responsibilities also include supporting the installation and operation of instrumentation and data acquisition systems used to monitor pavement experiments and evaluate structural and performance response under controlled loading conditions. Familiarity with pavement instrumentation, sensor integration, and data collection systems is essential for success in this role.

 

​Qualifications

  • BS degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.

  • At least 3 years of experience in operation, troubleshooting, maintenance, or repair of specialized mechanical or testing systems.

  • Knowledge of mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical control systems.

  • Ability to set up and operate specialized research equipment.

  • Ability to troubleshoot, maintain, and repair heavy specialized equipment.

  • Ability to operate heavy equipment such as skid steers, forklifts, and similar machinery.

  • Familiarity with sensors, instrumentation systems, and data acquisition systems used for pavement monitoring and experimental research.

  • Excellent verbal, presentation, and technical writing skills.

  • Strong team-oriented and collaborative working skills.

 

Location

This position is based in McLean, VA.
