Principal ITS Engineer
High Performance Technologies, Inc. (HPTech) is an infrastructure-centered firm focusing on practice, research, policy, and technology transfer. HPTech was established in 2003 with the primary purpose of serving the U.S. federal government at their facilities and project sites. Our uniqueness lies in our ability to integrate physical sciences, social sciences, engineering, planning, and policy when developing and delivering infrastructure solutions.
HPTech is currently pursuing an upcoming major federal contract, and we are identifying candidates who would be interested in working with us should we be awarded the contract. At this stage, we are looking for a Principal Intelligent Transportation Systems Engineer (PITSE) who is a skilled practitioner and has technical knowledge and understanding in various ITS key areas, including systems architecture, systems engineering, communications engineering, transportation engineering, and software engineering. The candidate must have good understanding of current transportation issues, including traffic management, freight and fleet management, transit management, and institutional, deployment, and interoperability issues. The PITSE must be familiar with the broad aspects of ITS goals and technologies; with specific aspects of new and emerging technologies; and with the major ITS development and deployment programs and will be expected to articulate the issues and policies related to ITS.
Qualifications

An advanced degree (M.S., Ph.D.) in transportation engineering, systems and industrial engineering, computer science and engineering, or a related field.

At least 12 years of experience with an M.S. degree or 10 years of experience with a Ph.D. degree.

Knowledgeable and experienced in ITS goals and technologies.

Thorough familiarity with multi-modal ITS concepts, practices, and procedures, and experienced in all phases of ITS life cycle.

Familiarity with the institutional issues surrounding deployment interoperability and connected transportation issues.

Knowledgeable and experienced in current highway transportation issues, including traffic management, mobility, data, Vehicle-to-Everything (V2X) technologies, freight and fleet management, and transit management.

The ability to understand the broad spectrum ITS stakeholder interests and requirements along with relevant technologies from a systems architecture perspective and optimally integrate these into a reference architecture.

Track record of published reports and papers in journals and conference proceedings related to ITS and other transportation technologies.

Track record of presentation at conferences, symposia, workshops, and other technical meetings.

Excellent team and collaborative skills.
This anticipated position, which is contingent upon the contract award to HPTech, would be based in Herndon, Virginia.
