Pavement Test Facility Operations Engineer

High Performance Technologies, Inc. (HPTech) is an infrastructure-centered firm focusing on practice, research, policy, and technology transfer.  HPTech was established in 2003 with the primary purpose of serving the U.S. federal government at their facilities and project sites.  Our uniqueness lies in our ability to integrate physical sciences, social sciences, engineering, planning, and policy when developing and delivering infrastructure solutions.

 

​HPTech is currently pursuing a task order on a major federal contract, and we are identifying candidates who would be interested in working with us should we be awarded the task order.  At this stage, we are looking for a Pavement Test Facility Operations Engineer (PTF-OE) who will be responsible for the operation and maintenance of specialized Pavement Test Machines (PTMs) at a state-of-the-art government-owned Pavement Test Facility (PTF).  The PTF uses accelerated testing of full-scale pavement structures to evaluate the performance of new materials, new design and construction practices, and new quality assurance/quality control (QA/QC) test procedures.  In the past, the PTF has supported numerous studies contributing to the development and verification of new specifications, designs, and test procedures for both rigid and flexible pavements.

 

The PTF-OE is responsible for the hands-on and day-to-day operation, maintenance, and repair of the Pavement Test Machines (PTMs) at the PTF.  Responsibilities also include assisting in the setup of instrumentation and data acquisition  systems to evaluate the performance of pavement experiments. Knowledge in pavement and geotechnical instrumentation and data collection is essential to this position.

 

Qualifications

  • BS degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent.

  • At least 5 years of experience related to the operation, troubleshooting and maintenance of the PTMs.

  • Knowledge of and experience with mechanical/hydraulic electrical control systems.

  • Ability to set-up and operate specialized unique equipment for research.

  • Ability to operate, troubleshoot, and repair heavy specialized equipment.

  • Ability to operate heavy equipment (e.g., skid steer, forklift machinery, etc.).

  • Familiarity with various sensors and data acquisition system used in in the instrumentation and monitoring of pavements.

  • Excellent verbal, presentation, and writing skills.

  • Excellent team and collaborative skills.

This anticipated position, which is contingent upon the task order award to HPTech, would be based in McLean, Virginia.
