NDE Research Technician

High Performance Technologies, Inc. (HPTech) is an infrastructure-centered firm focusing on practice, research, policy, and technology transfer.  HPTech was established in 2003 with the primary purpose of serving the U.S. federal government at their facilities and project sites.  Our uniqueness lies in our ability to integrate physical sciences, social sciences, engineering, planning, and policy when developing and delivering infrastructure solutions.

HPTech is currently pursuing a task order under a major federal contract, and we are identifying candidates who would be interested in working with us should we be awarded the task order.  At this stage, we are looking for a Non-Destructive Evaluation (NDE) Research Technician who will be working at a state-of-the-art NDE laboratory at a government facility, and assisting the research engineers in the performance of a variety of laboratory and field projects related to NDE and structural health monitoring (SHM) of bridges.

 

Responsibilities

  • Set up and operate equipment, sensors, and data acquisition systems, both in the laboratory and in the field.

  • Fabricate and maintain concrete and metal specimens in the laboratory and test them using a variety of NDE devices and systems. 

  • Calibrate and maintain NDE equipment and sensors. 

  • Install and maintain software for specialized NDE equipment.

  • Perform standardized materials tests.

  • Instrument bridges in the field and monitor them wirelessly and remotely using a variety of NDE devices and systems.

Qualifications

  • ASNT Level II certification in at least one NDE technique (MT, PT, RT, UT, VT).

  • At least 5 years of hands-on experience in a research environment.

  • Familiarity with a variety of NDE laboratory and field concepts, practices, and procedures.

  • Understanding of and familiarity with standards and specifications related to NDE.

  • Excellent team and collaborative skills.

This anticipated position, which is contingent upon the task order award to HPTech, would be based in McLean, Virginia.
