Materials Testing Technician

High Performance Technologies, Inc. (HPTech) is an infrastructure-centered firm focusing on practice, research, policy, and technology transfer.  HPTech was established in 2003 with the primary purpose of serving the U.S. federal government at their facilities and project sites.  Our uniqueness lies in our ability to integrate physical sciences, social sciences, engineering, planning, and policy when developing and delivering infrastructure solutions.

​HPTech is currently pursuing a task order under a major federal contract, and we are identifying candidates who would be interested in working with us should we be awarded the task order.  At this stage, we are looking for a Materials Testing Technician who will be responsible for supporting research in the Aggregate and Petrography Laboratory (APL), a state-of-the-art laboratory at a government facility. The APL conducts research in characterizing various construction materials used in bridges and pavements and identifying deterioration mechanisms encountered in these facilities.  APL, in collaboration with other laboratories, also participates in the forensic investigation of transportation infrastructure. The laboratory is equipped with a variety of sample preparation and analysis equipment.  These include stereo microscopes, transmitted and reflected light microscopes and image-capturing systems.

​Qualifications

  • High school diploma.  Associate degree in civil engineering is desired.

  • At least 3 years of experience in sampling, testing, and quality control of aggregates, concrete, asphalt and other paving materials.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of and experience with both highway field inspection procedures and laboratory testing of highway materials in accordance with AASHTO, ASTM, and/or State DOT methods.

  • Level 2 highway or materials technician certification from a recognized accrediting authority or a State DOT covering materials inspection, sampling, and quality control, as well as testing of construction materials both in the field and in the laboratory.

  • Excellent verbal and writing skills.

  • Excellent team and collaborative skills.

 

This anticipated position, which is contingent upon the task order award to HPTech, would be based in McLean, Virginia.
