Highway Research Engineer

High Performance Technologies, Inc. (HPTech) is an infrastructure-centered firm focusing on practice, research, policy, and technology transfer.  HPTech was established in 2003 with the primary purpose of serving the U.S. federal government at their facilities and project sites.  Our uniqueness lies in our ability to integrate physical sciences, social sciences, engineering, planning, and policy when developing and delivering infrastructure solutions.

​HPTech is currently pursuing an upcoming major federal contract, and we are identifying candidates who would be interested in working with us should we be awarded the contract.  At this stage, we are looking for a Highway Research Engineer (HRE) who will be responsible for planning and conducting research related to the design, analysis, construction, maintenance, and performance modeling of highway infrastructure that examine the complex interactions between traffic loads, materials, construction methodologies, and environment. The HRE will evaluate construction practices to understand and account for variances between as-designed versus as-constructed and to identify improved construction practices to enhance long term performance. The candidate will also be responsible for developing methodologies and guidance to incorporate resilience into infrastructure design, construction, maintenance and preservation processes.

Qualifications

  • Ph.D. degree in Civil Engineering.

  • At least 7 years of progressively responsible experience conducting research, developmental, testing, and analysis of highway pavements.

  • Demonstrated experience in structural and functional evaluation of in-service pavements using non-destructive evaluation (NDE) and other technologies.

  • Demonstrated experience in pavement preservation methods, materials, specifications, and construction.

  • Experience in life cycle costs analysis (LCCA) and life cycle assessment (LCA) associated with preserving and enhancing highway infrastructure physical assets.

  • Record of published peer-reviewed journal articles and research reports, and conference presentations.

  • Excellent verbal, presentation, and writing skills.

  • Excellent team and collaborative skills.

  • Registration as a Professional Engineer (P.E.) highly desirable.

 

​This anticipated position, which is contingent upon the contract award to HPTech, would be based in Herndon, Virginia.
