High Performance Technologies, Inc. (HPTech) is an infrastructure-centered firm focusing on practice, research, policy, and technology transfer. HPTech was established in 2003 with the primary purpose of serving the U.S. federal government at their facilities and project sites. HPTech is currently pursuing a major federal contract, and we are identifying candidates who would be interested in working with us should we be awarded the contract. The position would be part of a research team conducting studies on new traffic operation concepts and technologies to improve the safety, efficiency, and sustainability of the existing surface transportation system. These activities are aimed at safely increasing the effective handling capacity of the existing roadway system without the expense of building and maintaining new roads. The research currently being performed by the team includes the development and evaluation of systems (hardware and software) and concepts to support Cooperative Driving Automation (CDA); the development of new Analysis, Modeling, and Simulation (AMS) tools that account for the addition of connected and automated vehicles in the traffic stream, including the development and use of hardware-in-the-loop, software-in-the-loop, and other virtual environments; and investigation of new technologies, including Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML), and use of data collection and information sharing to improve traffic management capabilities and develop decision support systems for managers of traffic operations. The position of Electrical Engineer is responsible for the research, design, development, and testing of computer or computer-related equipment for transportation applications.
Research, design, develop, and test the manufacturing and installation of electrical equipment, components, or systems.
Design electronic circuits and components for use in intelligent transportation systems.
Perform engineering duties at a higher systems level of the hardware and software required for control of traffic signals, traffic management systems, and vehicle guidance systems. This includes control engineering, optimization, testing, validation, and control system design.
Advanced degree (M.S. or Ph.D.) in Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Computer Engineering, or Computer Science.
At least 4 years of related experience.
Excellent verbal, presentation, and writing skills.
Excellent team and collaborative skills.
Experience in a research environment highly desirable.
This anticipated position, which is contingent upon the contract award to HPTech, would be based in McLean, Virginia.
