Concrete Research Manager

High Performance Technologies, Inc. (HPTech) is an infrastructure-centered firm focusing on practice, research, policy, and technology transfer.  HPTech was established in 2003 with the primary purpose of serving the U.S. federal government at their facilities and project sites.  Our uniqueness lies in our ability to integrate physical sciences, social sciences, engineering, planning, and policy when developing and delivering infrastructure solutions.

HPTech is currently pursuing an upcoming major federal contract, and we are identifying candidates who would be interested in working with us should we be awarded the contract.  At this stage, we are looking for a Concrete Research Manager who will be responsible for the oversight of a state-of-the-art laboratory at a government facility. The Concrete Research Manager conducts research in many areas related to concrete materials, such as fly ash, slag cement, and alternative cementitious materials with little or no hydraulic cement. The Concrete Research Manager also performs research on various concrete deterioration mechanisms, including freezing and thawing damage, sulfate attack, and alkali-silica reaction (ASR).  The laboratory has been involved in the development and evaluation of new test procedures and improvement of existing testing procedures. It has supported the Performance Engineered Mixtures (PEM) initiative by assessing and validating methodologies and criteria.

The Concrete Research Manager will be responsible for overall scheduling of laboratory resources and day-to-day laboratory operations. The Concrete Research Manager will also be responsible for ensuring that all equipment are in a state of good repair, equipment calibrations and annual maintenance requirements are upheld, and the laboratory safety plan is up-to-date. The Concrete Research Manager will have experience working in a research laboratory environment with at least 5 years of laboratory management experience. This is a hands-on management position with functional responsibilities equivalent to that of a Research Engineer.  As a researcher, the candidate will identify challenges and opportunities in the materials, design, and construction of concrete pavements and bridges aimed at designing and constructing pavements and bridges that are safer, economical, and longer-lasting.
