Coatings and Corrosion Research Engineer

High Performance Technologies, Inc. (HPTech) is an infrastructure-centered firm focusing on practice, research, policy, and technology transfer.  HPTech was established in 2003 with the primary purpose of serving the U.S. federal government at their facilities and project sites.  Our uniqueness lies in our ability to integrate physical sciences, social sciences, engineering, planning, and policy when developing and delivering infrastructure solutions.

 

​HPTech is currently pursuing a task order on a major federal contract, and we are identifying candidates who would be interested in working with us should we be awarded the task order. At this stage, we are looking for a Coatings and Corrosion Research Engineer (CCRE) who will be responsible for planning and conducting research in a state-of-the-art Coatings and Corrosion Laboratory (CCL) at a government facility. The research conducted in the CCL advances the application of corrosion prevention and mitigation technologies for highway infrastructure. The research in the laboratory is focused on improving the durability and performance of innovative corrosion-resistant metals and coating systems.

 

The CCRE shall be capable of reviewing and synthesizing the literature on a variety of topics in the coatings and corrosion of highway infrastructure. Responsibilities shall include, but not limited to, setting up, operating and conducting experiments, and working with instrumentation systems both in the laboratory and at field sites. The responsibilities shall also include numerical modeling to simulate corrosion processes. The candidate must be capable of presenting during demonstration projects, seminars, webinars, scientific meetings, and workshops.

 

Qualifications

  • Advanced degree (M.S. or Ph.D.) in Corrosion Engineering, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science/Engineering, Metallurgy, Chemistry, Electrochemistry, or related discipline.

  • At least 5 years of coatings and corrosion research experience.

  • Specific experience in the corrosion of steel and/or reinforced concrete.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of and experience in corrosion prevention and mitigation techniques and coatings technology.

  • Demonstrated proficiency in the use of materials/techniques used for the application of coatings on steel bridges.

  • Proven ability to develop and execute experimental designs and research plans.

  • Record of published peer-reviewed journal articles and research reports, and conference presentations.

  • Excellent verbal, presentation, and writing skills.

  • Excellent team and collaborative skills.

  • AMPP Corrosion Specialist certification highly desirable.

This anticipated position, which is contingent upon the task order award to HPTech, would be based in McLean, Virginia.
