Coatings and Corrosion Technician

HPTech is currently seeking qualified candidates for the position of Coatings and Corrosion Technician (CCT) to support advanced laboratory and field research activities in a state-of-the-art Coatings and Corrosion Laboratory (CCL) located at a government research facility. Research conducted in the CCL advances corrosion prevention and mitigation technologies for highway infrastructure, with emphasis on improving the durability and long-term performance of corrosion-resistant metals, protective coatings, and related infrastructure materials.

The candidate will be responsible for setting up experiments, installing and operating instrumentation, conducting laboratory and field tests, collecting and documenting data, and supporting technical research activities related to coatings and corrosion of highway infrastructure systems. Responsibilities also include preparing test specimens, operating corrosion monitoring equipment, assisting in condition evaluations of structural materials, and ensuring testing is performed in accordance with established technical procedures and laboratory protocols.

​Qualifications

  • Associate degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronics, or a related technical field.

  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience in a coatings and corrosion laboratory environment.

  • Strong mechanical aptitude and technical troubleshooting ability.

  • Demonstrated experience with corrosion monitoring equipment and laboratory instrumentation.

  • Experience conducting coatings and corrosion tests in accordance with ASTM, AASHTO, and AMPP procedures.

  • Demonstrated experience preparing test specimens for coatings and corrosion evaluation.

  • Experience in corrosion condition assessment of reinforced concrete and structural steel in highway bridges.

  • Strong verbal, technical writing, and communication skills.

  • Strong team-oriented and collaborative abilities.

  • AMPP Corrosion Technician and/or Coating Inspector certification highly desirable.

 

Location

This position is based in McLean, VA.
