Asphalt Senior Project Engineer

High Performance Technologies, Inc. (HPTech) is an infrastructure-centered firm focusing on practice, research, policy, and technology transfer. HPTech was established in 2003 with the primary purpose of serving the U.S. federal government at their facilities and project sites. Our uniqueness lies in our ability to integrate physical sciences, social sciences, engineering, planning, and policy when developing and delivering infrastructure solutions.

​HPTech is currently pursuing an upcoming federal contract, and we are identifying candidates who would be interested in working with us should we be awarded the contract. At this stage, we are looking for an Asphalt Senior Project Engineer (ASPE) who will be responsible for providing management and technical direction for an asphalt program at a government facility, focused upon technology transfer of emerging asphalt technologies. The position will regularly exercise independent judgment and high-level of analytical skills in solving complex technical problems related to asphalt materials and construction of low carbon materials in asphalt pavements. The ASPE will review reports and other documents prepared by the program staff. The ASPE will develop strategies and action plans to accomplish the program objectives, and contribute to the development of new projects, workshops, briefing documents, presentations, and technical publications, particularly in low carbon materials implementation. The ASPE will provide technical assistance to federal, state, and local agencies, and the industry in the implementation of emerging asphalt technologies.

 

Qualifications

  • An advanced degree (M.S. or Ph.D.) in civil engineering, with a concentration in pavement materials, particularly asphalt.

  • At least 20 years of professional experience, including 15 years of specialized experience in asphalt materials, pavement design, and construction.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of and experience in Superpave mix design, asphalt pavement design, agency acceptance testing, quality control testing, and the required test equipment and procedures.

  • Proficient in the use of computers for data analysis and management.

  • Demonstrated experience in technology transfer activities, including demonstrations, workshops, and seminars.

  • Track record of publishing journal articles and presenting at conferences.

  • Excellent verbal, presentation, and writing skills.

  • Excellent team and collaborative skills.

  • A Professional Engineer (PE) license is highly desirable.

 

This anticipated position, which is contingent upon the contract award to HPTech, would be based in Washington DC.
