Asphalt Project Engineer

High Performance Technologies, Inc. (HPTech) is an infrastructure-centered firm focusing on practice, research, policy, and technology transfer.  HPTech was established in 2003 with the primary purpose of serving the U.S. federal government at their facilities and project sites.  Our uniqueness lies in our ability to integrate physical sciences, social sciences, engineering, planning, and policy when developing and delivering infrastructure solutions.

​HPTech is currently pursuing an upcoming federal contract, and we are identifying candidates who would be interested in working with us should we be awarded the contract. At this stage, we are looking for an Asphalt Project Engineer (APE) who will be responsible for conducting and managing an asphalt program at a government facility, focused upon technology transfer of emerging asphalt technologies. The position will be responsible for the preparation of all reports associated with the project, supervision of laboratory technicians on the project, preparation and accuracy of work plans, reports, and data analysis, and the progress of project work. The APE will maintain complete project notation including overseeing up-to-date management of the test results and project database. The APE will also be responsible for conducting data analysis and writing reports related to asphalt mixture performance testing, results from binder performance testing provided by associated laboratories, and additional development assignments. The APE will speak regularly at stakeholder meetings and presentations or showcases of the program. The APE is expected to generate journal articles and conference papers based on routine and special scoping activities conducted under the program.

 

Qualifications

  • An advanced degree (M.S. or Ph.D.) in civil engineering, with a concentration in pavement materials, particularly asphalt.

  • At least 5 years of experience in the field of asphalt technology.

  • Demonstrated experience in asphalt pavement materials, statistics, and material modeling.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of and experience in Superpave mix design, asphalt pavement design, agency acceptance testing, quality control testing, and the required test equipment and procedures.

  • Proficient in the use of computers for data analysis and management.

  • Demonstrated experience in technology transfer activities, including demonstrations, workshops, and seminars.

  • Track record of publishing journal articles and presenting at conferences.  

  • Excellent verbal, presentation, and writing skills.

  • Excellent team and collaborative skills.

  • A Professional Engineer (PE) license is highly desirable.

 

This anticipated position, which is contingent upon the contract award to HPTech, would be based in Washington DC.
