Asphalt Implementation Engineer
High Performance Technologies, Inc. (HPTech) is an infrastructure-centered firm focusing on practice, research, policy, and technology transfer. HPTech was established in 2003 with the primary purpose of serving the U.S. federal government at their facilities and project sites. Our uniqueness lies in our ability to integrate physical sciences, social sciences, engineering, planning, and policy when developing and delivering infrastructure solutions.
HPTech is currently pursuing an upcoming major federal contract, and we are identifying candidates who would be interested in working with us should we be awarded the contract. At this stage, we are looking for an Asphalt Implementation Engineer (AIE) who will be responsible for planning and conducting research in a state-of-the-art Asphalt Binder and Mixtures Laboratory (ABML) at a government facility. The ABML investigates the physical properties of paving materials, including strength, stiffness, and ductility. The laboratory also validates and advances emerging test methods. The research performed in the laboratory forms the basis for developing and advancing material specifications that improve the durability, longevity, quality, and cost-effectiveness of pavements.
The AIE shall have demonstrated implementation-related experience in asphalt materials, which includes field and demonstration project experience to assess and deploy innovative asphalt technologies. Additionally, the ARE shall have familiarity with digital-to-analog data acquisition, data management, analysis, and visualization, sensor selection and wiring (strain gauges, accelerometers, potentiometers, linear variable differential transducers, extensometers, and load cells), setup and operation of closed-loop servovalve controlled hydraulic systems, experiments conducted and setup using automated technology, rheometers, viscometers, spectrometers, ductilometers, or in solvent extraction and recovery testing, design of accelerated loading facility sections, and common asphalt property characterization tests of AASHTO and ASTM. The candidate must be capable of presenting during demonstration projects, seminars, webinars, scientific meetings, and workshops.
Advanced degree (M.S. or Ph.D.) in Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Engineering/Science, Chemistry, or related discipline.
At least 5 years of experience related to assessment and deployment of innovative asphalt technologies.
Demonstrated knowledge of and experience in aggregate and asphalt technology.
In depth knowledge of binder and mixture performance related specifications.
Record of published peer-reviewed journal articles and research reports, and conference presentations.
Excellent verbal, presentation, and writing skills.
Excellent team and collaborative skills.
Professional Engineer (P.E.) registration highly desirable.
This anticipated position, which is contingent upon the contract award to HPTech, would be based in McLean, Virginia.
Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
